"Mothers of the World" — “Mothers of the World”

Bonjour à tous,

Pour le Maternelle Club aujourd’hui nous nous sommes concentrés sur la célébration de mères à travers le monde avec un livre de notre bibliothèque locale (médiathèque La Ciotat) intitulé «Mamans du Monde” (publié par Milan Jeunesse). Vous y trouverez de belles photos de femmes dans diverses situations de tous les jours avec leurs enfants.

Ensuite nous avons dessiné des portraits de nos mères. Comme on pouvait le craindre, certaines d’entre nous ont des moustaches (hihi) et d’autres resemblent à la dame ci-dessous (et oui, c’est censé être MOI!!).

Passez une bonne soirée à tous et j’espère vous voir très nombreux à la classe de demain qui se réunira au Jardin de Ville à 10h00. Au plaisir de vous y voir!

Hello Everyone,

For today’s Maternelle Club we focused on celebrating mothers around the world with a book from our local library (mediatheque La Ciotat) entitled “Mamans du Monde” (published by Milan Jeunesse). Inside you’ll find beautiful photographs of women in various everyday situations with their children.

Afterwards we drew some portraits of our own mothers. As it turns out, some of us were given mustaches (hihi) and others looked like the lady below (and yes, that’s supposed to be ME!!).

Have a wonderful evening everyone and I hope to see many of you at tomorrow’s class that will be meeting at Jardin de Ville at 10:00. See you there!

La fête des mères est déjà passée aux États-Unis, mais nous avons encore un peu de temps en France. Certains de mes étudiants ont travaillé dur ces deux dernières semaines pour faire un cadeau pour une dame spéciale dans leur vie.

Hello Everyone!

Mother’s Day has come and gone in the United States but we’ve still got some time here in France. Some of my students have been working hard these past two weeks putting together a little Mother’s Day gift for a special lady in their lives.

In this post we’ll give you a look at how we put together the first part of their gift and hopefully inspire you to take the time to make a little something for that special lady in your life too :)

Hello Everyone,

Did you know that stickers can be a great way to get children to develop their fine motors skills? There are countless ways of doing this activity but I only used two during this class. The first one involves the child simply applying stickers to decorate the page as he or she chooses. The second way has the child use the sticker shapes to come up with a scene. In this case the scene was “Springtime”.

Bonjour tout le monde !

Ici, à Learn and Play en Anglais nous aimons apprendre l’anglais en utilisant le langage de tous les jours dans une ambiance détendue à l’aide de la musique et de l’art. Chaque fois que nous nous rencontrons , nous chantons des chansons, dansons, faisons des l’activités artistiques et de l’écriture . À chaque fois! :)

Une des dernières fois que mon Maternelle Club s’est réuni, nous avons utilisé une technique qui consiste à mélanger la peinture et les crayons afin de dégager un effet magique de notre travail . Tout ce que vous avez à faire est de prendre un crayon blanc et de dessiner une image sur un morceau de papier blanc. Ensuite, peindre sur le blanc avec des aquarelles (nous avons fait notre propre aquarelle pendant les cours ) et bientôt vous verrez par magie le crayon blanc commence à apparaitre.

Pour clore notre classe , nous avons travaillé sur la lettre G . D’abord l’échauffement en écrivant les lettres ” C ” et “j” car elles sont similaires. Cela me vient de l’habitude, comme eux, de pratiquer l’écriture en utilisant des formes (ou lettres) familières avant d’écrire une lettre plus difficile. De plus, cela leur permet de voir comment les parties de lettres peuvent être combinées pour former de nouvelles lettres. Ainsi, il ne faut pas beaucoup pour changer un ” C ” dans un “G” .

Hello Everyone!

Here at Learn and Play en Anglais we like to learn English by using everyday language in a relaxed setting with the aid of music and art. Every time that we meet we sing songs, dance, do an arts and crafts activity and practice our writing skill. Every time! :)

One of the last times that my Maternelle Club (Preschool Club) met we used a technique that involves mixing paint and crayons to give off a dreamlike and magical effect to our work. All you have to do is take out a white crayon and draw an image onto a white piece of paper. Next, paint over the white on white drawing with some watercolors (we made our own during class) and pretty soon you’ll magically see the white crayon start to “pop”.

To close out our class we worked on the letter G by first warming up by writing the letters “C” and “j”. There’s not a lot of science to the worksheets that I make for my students, I just usually like them to practice writing out some familiar shapes (or letters) before writing the harder letter that they are working on. Plus, it allows them to see how letter parts can be combined to form new letters. For example it doesn’t take much to change a “C” into a “G”.

Dream catcher by Learn and Play en Anglais

Use a tea towel to help you manipulate the wire without hurting your hands.

Cut a long piece of wool and fold it in half. — Cut a long piece of yarn and fold it in half.

Add some hot glue before making another knot so as to hold it in place.

Tie the yarn to one end of your dream catcher and attach beads, buttons, etc. for decoration.

Certains de mes étudiants ont travaillé à fabriquer des capteurs de rêves lors des dernières semaines et j’ai pensé que je devais partager notre projet avec vous. Avant de les faire, nous avons eu une petite discussion sur ce que les rêves sont et le genre de rêves que nous pouvons faire. J’ai expliqué que le travail d’un capteur de rêves est d’attraper tous ces mauvais rêves afin de ne faire que des beaux rêves la nuit.

La semaine prochaine, je vais étendre ce projet avec des dessins et de la peinture, mais pour l’instant je suis très heureuse de la façon dont tout s’est passé.

Hello Everyone!

Some of my students have been working on making dream catchers for the last few weeks and I thought that I’d share our project with you. Before making them we had a little chat about what dreams are and what kind of dreams we can have. I explained that a dream catcher’s job is to catch all of those bad dreams so that we only have sweet dreams at night.

Next week I’ll extend this project with some drawing and painting but for now I’m very happy with how everything turned out.

Bonjour tout le monde !

Je commence à explorer un nouveau domaine de l’enseignement qui est la motricité fine , la plupart du temps en se concentrant sur les mouvements des petits muscles des mains, des poignets et les doigts de jeunes enfants. Il y a beaucoup de raisons d’utiliser ces muscles dans notre vie quotidienne (boutonner notre veste par exemple) et nous avons tendance à les négliger.

Comme la plupart des enfants trouverait ennuyeux (au point d’être une punition) de boutonner et déboutonner leurs manteaux maintes et maintes fois, j’ai essayé de trouver des projets faciles qui les aident à travailler ces petits muscles, en pur plaisir.

Pour ce projet, vous pouvez utiliser des boîtes de céréales afin que vos enfants jouent tout de suite ou vous pouvez utiliser du papier imprimante ordinaire (brut ou coloré), puis laminer afin que vos patrons de couture durent plus longtemps. Une dernière chose, si vous choisissez de laminer vos formes, assurez-vous de percer des trous après les avoir plastifier et pas avant.

perforation (utiliser la perforatrice APRÈS plastifier vos cartes de couture)

Hello Everyone!

I’m starting to really get into a new area of teaching that’s all about fine motor skills, mostly focusing on the small muscle movements in the hands, wrists and fingers of young children. There are a lot of ways to practice using these muscles and sometimes, those ways are already such a big part of our everyday lives (like buttoning a button on our jacket) that we tend to overlook them.

Since most kids would find it boring (to the point of punishment) to button and unbutton their coat buttons over and over again, I’ve been trying to find some easy projects that would inspire them to work those little muscles out of sheer fun.

For this project you can either use cereal boxes and have your kids play right away or you can use regular printer paper (plain or colored) and then laminate it so that your sewing patterns last longer. Just a little note, if you choose to laminate your shapes make sure that you punch holes in them AFTER you laminate them and not before.

Materials:

Cardstock or cereal boxes

Regular white or colored paper

crayons or markers

laminator (laminating sheets)

hole punch (use the hole punch AFTER you laminate your sewing cards)

ball of wool

wool needle

Éruption d’un volcan!

Press on the bottle top to help push it out of the volcano. — Press on the top of the bottle to help push it out of the volcano.

Flip the box over and pull out the plastic bottle.

Cut off the plastic from the tip of your volcano.

Put two pumps of soap into your bottle, then add two teaspoons of baking soda.

Pour about half a cup of vinegar into the bottle and watch as your volcano erupts!

Nous avons pris beaucoup de plaisir à faire notre volcan en éruption au cours de notre classe de samedi dernier. Tout ce dont vous avez besoin pour cette petite expérience à la maison est de vinaigre, du bicarbonate de soude et du liquide vaisselle. Vous pouvez faire l’expérience dans un verre d’abord, comme nous l’avons fait, pour vous assurer que vous utilisez les bonnes quantités pour l’éruption.

En outre, il est bon d’agir comme des scientifiques et de leur poser des questions sur ce qui va se produire lors de votre expérience. A cet age, les enfants ont une imagination énorme et ils pourraient penser qu’ils ont vu du feu et /ou de la fumée. C’est juste l’excitation et l’imagination à son meilleur.

Voici une autre petite astuce: utilisez du colorant alimentaire dans votre mélange pour l’éruption du volcan afin d’obtenir des couleurs plus authentiques. Nous n’avons pas utilisé de colorant alimentaire pour les nôtres, parce que nous avions déjà à la maison du vinaigre de vin rouge qui a très bien fonctionné.

Hello Everyone,

We had a lot of fun making our volcano erupt during our class this past Saturday. All you need to do this little experiment at home is vinegar, baking soda and dishwashing liquid. You might want to try out the experiment in a glass first, like we did, to make sure that you get it right before trying it out in your volcano.

Also, it’s nice to act like proper scientists and ask questions about what you expect to occur during your experiment as well as what occurred afterward. At this age children have HUGE imaginations and they might still think that they saw fire and/or smoke even after your experiment is over. Don’t worry about that, that’s just excitement and imagination at its best :)

Here’s another little tip: use food coloring in your volcano eruption mixture in order to get the colors to look more authentic. We didn’t use food coloring for ours because we had red wine vinegar on hand and that worked fine but perhaps a little food coloring wouldn’t have hurt.
